Thrilling times for MV Pioneer
Thursday, 25 August 2011 17:14
From our colleague Gerrit Glazema (Marine Support department), who is tracking hurricane Irene since last week Friday:
MV Pioneer is now discharging in Port Everglades (Florida). Initially she was in the path of hurricane Irene.
Yesterday the Pioneer was given green light from the Port Authorities to remain in port, after the hurricane changed its course to the East. So there is no longer an immediate danger for the crew, the cargo and the vessel. The graphic shows the current position of the vessel and the hurricane.
Irene is a hurricane of category 3 with wind speeds of 110 knots. This is about twice wind force 12.
According to the predictions, Irene will come ashore on Saturday at Cape Hatteras. On Sunday New York needs to get ready for this phenomenon.
We expect MV Pioneer to depart on Saturday for a voyage to New Jersey.
